How to Survive (and rock!) NYFW!
February 18, 2018
Last week I was able to experience my second New York Fashion Week. I helped out at shows through my internship from the summer, as well as went to shows with my friends! The days were jam packed, but so exciting. I'm definitely no expert, but here are some ways I held it together and had the best time during NYFW.
7 tips I follow to make sure I survive fashion week (and enjoy it too!)
1. Vitamins, Sleep, More Vitamins, More Sleep
One thing I thought was super cool over Men's Fashion Week over the summer when I was at my internship is that they had the kitchen always stocked up with "Emergen-C". During fashion week, especially if you're working shows, you'll get little to no sleep and you have to make sure your body is ready for that. Sleep when you can and make sure you're keeping yourself healthy in the weeks leading up to Fashion Week!
2. Bring an Umbrella
If you were in NYC at shows on February 11th, you'd know it was pouring and wasn't letting up AT ALL! Definitely pack a little compact umbrella because the worst thing ever would be to have this incredible outfit and get rained on.
3. Experience all NYFW has to offer
NYFW is so much more than the shows. There are events, conferences, pop-up shops, exhibits and more! I attended the Simply NYC Fashion and Beauty Conference, which luckily fell right during fashion week, and it was one of the most incredible experiences. For an entire day, they hosted panels, workshops, interactive brand experiences and networking opportunities.
4. Dress to Impress
Photographers are everywhere, and so are fashion superstars. Dress like you're going to meet someone important, because you just might! (Maybe you'll even make it on a best street style list)
5. Don't Skimp on the Coffee & Don't Forget Lunch
Don't let your body run on empty, you'll be grumpy and won't be able to keep up with the fast pace of the day. Pack granola bars and other snacks and don't be afraid to make a coffee run or two.
6. Don't Forget Your Business Cards!
I definitely made this mistake a few times and I regret it. Whether you're a blogger, PR girl, editor or just a fashion enthusiast, you can make amazing connections during fashion week.
7. Enjoy
Always remember that you're surrounded by art. Fashion week is hard and it can be hard to go from show to show (especially if it's super cold or raining). However, in the end, experiencing something so incredible as NYFW will make it all worth it.
Here are some photos I took walking around and during the shows I worked!
